In addition to making a donation to a fund of their choice, members can also support Beth El through Project Zachor — making a donation to dedicate a custom-made yahrzeit nameplate in honor of a loved one who has passed. The nameplates are mounted on either side of the bimah, and visitors may place small stones of remembrance on them.
A nameplate may memorialize a parent, child, spouse or sibling, including those who were non-Jewish. Only current Beth El members may purchase nameplates, although a nameplate for a deceased Beth El member may be purchased by anyone. Nameplates are all the same size and include the English name, Jewish name if any (Hebrew or Yiddish), and the person’s birth and death dates.
The donation for one nameplate is $360. Members whose financial circumstances preclude making a full donation may discuss their situation confidentially with the rabbi. No one will be excluded from participation based on ability to make a donation.
We hope that Project Zachor will provide the members of the Beth El community with a place to remember our loved ones and a way to perform the mitzvah of honoring their memories.
