Singing our Supplications: Musical Traditions for a Song of Selichot

When

Saturday, September 21, 2024
1:30pm – 2:30pm

Event Type

On Selichot, we soften ourselves up in readiness for the Days of Awe, and humbly ask forgiveness for the ways we’ve erred and hardened. The liturgical poem or piyyut “Chon Tachon” (“please forgive)” pairs contrition with hope and helps us prepare to stand, vulnerable and seeking, in front of the New Year’s door. Join Cantor Vera as we look deeply into one piyyut, three melodies (Italian, Moroccan and Kolkatan), and the ways we get ready to sing “we’re sorry” at Selichot.
