Beth El is delighted to welcome Pro Arte back for another beautiful concert of classical music! This special additional performance of the Pro Arte Wind Quintet features a variety of works by significant composers for the genre. This performance will be complemented by an additional performance at the Salon Series home venue at the Allen Center for Arts and Culture on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
We will fly through the light Humoresque by Alexander von Zemlinsky, and the charming La Cheminée du Roi René by Darius Milhaud, and will anchor ourselves with the monumental Kleine Kammermusik by Paul Hindemith. All three of these composers were emigrés to America, having fled the Nazis, and their works are extremely important in the wind quintet canon. Local composers Arthur Berger and Gunther Schuller, both with strong ties to Boston, round out the program. Berger was a Brandeis faculty member and Schuller was the president of the New England Conservatory and the conductor laureate of Pro Arte.
Please join us for this extremely varied, unique and fun program that showcases the many colors of the woodwind quintet. Click here to register.
Musical Program:
The Salon Series is Pro Arte’s chamber music concert series. Each performance features a select handful of musicians from Pro Arte’s cooperative along with occasional guest artists to present musical gems not featured in the full orchestral Ensemble Series. It’s a perfect way get to know Pro Arte players better. If you haven’t been to one of these concerts, they are presented in a less formal manner and feature plenty of opportunity to interact with the musicians and to learn more about the music.
