Our group began with exploring stories by Jewish authors with explicit Jewish themes. We then shifted to books by Jewish authors with implicit Jewish themes. Now, we’re exploring a title written by an author who isn’t Jewish that, nonetheless, has explicit Jewish themes! Mary Robinette Kowal’s novel The Calculating Stars, won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards. It’s a powerful story of an alternate history novel with a very Jewish protagonist.
