Author Sacha Lamb (they/them) comes to Beth El to open our Pride Month celebrations!
On Saturday, June 7, Sacha will lead a hybrid Torah study, starting at 9:00am. The event will take place in person and be livestreamed on Zoom.
“My Torah study plan is that we will look at episodes from the Talmud outlining the biographies of Rabbi Yochanan and Resh Lakish. We’ll be reading those sources through a queer lens, exploring how the gender-segregated and homosocial world of the bet midrash shapes the story of these two rabbis.”
Afterwards, Sacha will offer a special d’var Torah during morning services.
Sacha Lamb explores gender, sexuality, and disability through historical fiction centering Jewish mythology and folklore. Their debut novel, When the Angels Left the Old Country, is a Printz Honor book and Stonewall and Sydney Taylor award winner. Their second novel, The Forbidden Book, is a Sydney Taylor Honor book and a Boston Globe Best of the Year pick for 2024.
The Silver Unicorn is providing copies of Sacha’s books to be purchased ahead of time that can be picked up at Beth El on June 7.
Sacha returns to Beth El on Zoom on for June’s Scifi/Fantasy Book Club, so be sure to pick up The Forbidden Book so you can join in the conversation!
