Guided Bird Walk

When

Wednesday, May 7, 2025
6:00am – 8:30am

Event Type

Please join us for our first-ever Beth El bird walk at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord (click here for a description and directions). The walk is for total novices as well as experienced birders; we will all learn from one another. We will walk for about 2 miles along level but probably muddy trails and are likely to see and hear a nice variety of springtime birds. In addition to viewing the birds and chatting about their natural history, we will have a chance to practice “auditory mindfulness” as we listen to the early morning bird song.

You can either meet us at Beth El at 6:00am or at Great Meadows NWR at 6:30am. There is a nominal fee for parking at the refuge. Please bring binoculars if you have them (we will have a couple extra to share, but please bring your own if you can). Be prepared for cool weather and muddy trails. The event will be canceled if it is raining hard; light rain will not dissuade us! If you have any questions, contact the trip leader Thomas Michel at thomas_michel@hms.harvard.edu or 617-365-1102.
