Enrichment and Enhancement

Our curriculum extends beyond the core classroom components. In order to encourage students and their families to carry Jewish practice from the classrooms into their homes and their daily lives, we enhance our core curriculum with a wide range of enrichment programs.

Family Learning

Family learning is a core element in our curriculum. By presenting opportunities for parents and children to learn with and from each other we enhance Jewish learning.

Retreats

Students participate in retreats starting in 3rd grade. Retreats enhance the formal curriculum with an immersive Jewish experience filled with ruach (spirit).

Holiday Programs

We celebrate Jewish holidays both through classroom activities and family learning activities to which siblings and community members are invited.

Kehillah (Community)

In grades 3-7 students engage in a communal prayer experience led by our Cantor. The focus of Kehillah is spiritual growth, skills application, and increasing comfort with prayer.

Tzedakah (Righteous Giving)

Students recognize the value of tzedakah through hands-on projects and selecting where their tzedakah is donated.

Sudbury Valley Jewish Special Education Initiative (SVJSEI)

We are part of a consortium of congregational schools that offer support to learners with special needs and to their families. Read more about SVJSEI and other Services for People with Disabilities.

Where would we find a home — lesbian moms, half Jewish, looking for a community that would feed our souls? A friend said "there's a funky shul in Sudbury — try it." Sixteen years later, here we still are at Beth El — home.
