Parent Involvement

Beth El Preschool welcomes parent participation in our classrooms and programs. We strive to create a partnership based on mutual respect. Some parents have a special skill or talent to share with the children. Others enjoy spending time reading to the children or helping with a special cooking or craft project.

Parents receive a parent participation form listing the many activities and volunteer opportunities that exist in the preschool. Many parents participate by driving on field trips, helping with family programming or by offering to assist the staff with special projects or events. Parent involvement is an important part of our success.

PRESCHOOL COMMITTEE

The Beth El Preschool Committee consists of a chairperson and members of the preschool community. This committee meets approximately once a month to discuss ways it can contribute to Beth El Preschool in a helpful manner. Examples of activities that the Preschool committee undertakes are student carnivals, our annual winter Pizza Party, Challah (braided bread for Sabbath) Express, our monthly Scholastic Book sales and a fabulous Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in the spring. The proceeds that these activities generate are used to fund the enrichment activities in our school.

Another important function of our Preschool Committee is to serve as the caring committee for the school. In the event of a family issue, the Preschool Committee will coordinate ways to help the family (eg. rides, meals, etc.). Beth El Preschool is proud to have such a vibrant and involved group of parents.

All preschool parents are welcome to join this committee.

ROOM PARENTS

Each year two parents from each class are asked to be room parents. These parents assist by being the liaison between the teacher and the class. The room parent may be called upon to arrange for parents to help in the classroom, chaperone on a field trip or by being the first person called on the emergency phone chain. In the past, room parents have coordinated class get-togethers to help the families get to know each other. In addition, they are a link between the Preschool Committee and the classroom. They may be asked to make reminder calls for events or coordinate volunteers.

In busy Boston, where it can takes weeks to make an appointment to see a friend, Beth El is an oasis where, when I make the effort, I find community, friendship, meaning and a Jewish home for my family.
