Adult Hebrew Literacy Classes
We will be offering two different Adult Hebrew Literacy classes this year. Our two wonderful teachers, Janet Buchwald and Pam McArthur, will again be conveying their incredible knowledge of this wonderful language. Classes will be Monday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30, beginning October 17
Beginning Hebrew (Taught by Pam McArthur)
Hebrew is the language of Torah and the Jewish people. The ability to read Hebrew opens up an amazing connection to our stories, prayers and traditions. And it’s fun! If you don’t know an aleph from a bet, or if you want to review the alphabet and practice your reading, we hope you will join us in Beginning Adult Hebrew. We will learn the Hebrew alphabet, and acquire some basic vocabulary as we read words and verses from the Torah and the siddur (prayerbook.) We hope this will be the year you take the first step into Hebrew!
Intermediate Hebrew (Taught by Janet Buchwald)
This class is designed to take the fluid reader to the next level with basic principles of grammar and expanded vocabulary. Through readings in modern and prayer book Hebrew, we will work toward developing a primary relationship with our texts and a deeper understanding of prayers. We will also take time to enjoy the fascinating workings of this miraculous language.
Here’s what former students have to say about the joys of learning Hebrew:
“I can find my place in the prayer book now!”
“The beauty of the language is amazing. I got so much more out of the Hebrew than I did reading the text in English.”
“My teacher is great; her enthusiasm is contagious!”
“It’s great to be able to read a verse and actually understand it.”
“Even if you don’t have time to do all the homework you can still come to class and learn a lot.”
“I learned four letters this year; now I know the whole aleph bet!”
We hope you will decide to join one of these amazing courses. Registration is free and easy. Just email isilver@framingham.edu and indicate your course preference. Those who are interested should touch base as soon as possible so we’ll know the level of interest in each course.
